Recipe: Lamb doner burger with sweet potato chips

Ok, so you may all have heard of, seen or had the homemade lamb doner kebab, more commonly referred to as 'fakeaway'?

I was making burgers this week and thinking of how to spice them up a bit and thought, why not use the same mix of  spices used in the 'fakeaway' recipe?

Well, the experiment worked! They were yummy and had a the taste of a lamb doner kebab but much more meaty and juicy.

This recipe makes enough for 6 burgers.

500g Lamb mince
2 shallots/ 1 small onion, finely diced
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp dried oregano/ mixed herbs
2 tsp lazy garlic/ 1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

1. Put all the above ingredients into a bowl and mix with your hands until fully combined.
2. Shape into 6 equal burgers or, if you're lazy like me, get a burger press! The kids LOVE to use it. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.

3. Fry or grill your burgers until cooked.

Serve on brioche buns with salad and mint sauce.

For the sweet potato chips I cut them up quite thinly. Pop them in a bowl and cover with several sprays of fry light and a sprinkling of semolina. Mix to make sure each chip is covered and place on a baking tray in a single layer.

Put into an oven at 200c and bake for 30 minutes. Turn the chips half way through.

  1. These sound fanI love lamb but have only ever made beef burgers from scratch, not lamb ones.

  2. A burger press sounds like a great idea, your burgers look very professional! My boys would love these!
