Holiday Money Help | Be a savvy traveller with Curve

Hoorah, it's that time of year where we're all jetting off on our jollies and basking in the glorious overseas sun (because we aren't getting much of it here are we?)

But spending abroad with exchange rates and card fee's can be a bit of a minefield.

Not with Curve though!

Curve makes spending, here and abroad, simple.

What is Curve?

A Curve card is basically all your cards in one!

"Curve simplifies your financial life by connecting your accounts to one smart card and even smarter app.

Load your Mastercard and Visa debit or credit cards into the Curve app, and spend from any of your accounts using just one Curve Mastercard" [Taken from the curve website]

There are 3 different cards available each offering slightly different benefits.

The standard Curve Blue card which is completely free.
The Curve Black card which is £9.99 per month.
And the Curve Metal card (currently only available in the UK) which is £14.99 per month or £150 if paid annually in advance.

One of the many benefits Curve offers is for spending abroad. Where most banks add up to 5% in fees for currency exchange, curve gives you access to the market rate +1% with no hidden fees and no top-up.

0fx on weekday transactions
You can make purchases in foreign currency converted at the real exchange rate (the rate at which the banks exchange money) with Curve.
You can spend up to £500 per month with no currency conversion fees with the Curve Blue card and up to £15,000 per year with the Curve Black and Curve Metal (with no monthly limit). Anything over these limits will incur a 2% fee.

This is only one weekdays because the UK foreign exchange markets are closed between Friday 23:59 and Sunday 23:59. During this time the Friday rate is used and an addition 0.5% for all transactions made in GBP, EUR and USD and 1.5% for all other supported currencies.

Free cash withdrawals on weekdays
You can withdraw up to £200 per month with no currency conversion fees with the Curve Blue card, up to £400 per rolling month with the Curve Black and up to £600 with the Curve Metal. Anything over these limits will be charges at 2% of the amount of the transaction or £2 (whichever is higher)

Free travel insurance
Curve provides free AXA comprehensive travel insurance with Curve Black and Curve Metal cards covering up to £15m medical fees, flight delays and more (The Metal card also includes lost luggage too!)

Free Gadget insurance
Curve provides free AXA Gadget insurance with Curve Black and Curve Metal cards, covering gadgets up to £800.

Rental car excess waiver
Rental car collision damage waiver insurance is free with the Curve Metal card, covering up to £25k.

LoungeKey
Curve Metal give you (plus your business colleagues, family and friends if you pay for them using your card) access to hundreds of lavish airport lounges at discounted prices. Each LoungeKey lounge offers a range of services such as drinks, dining, showers, conferencing facilities and WiFi.

Other benefits include:

Hotel deposits
Curve will automatically assume that charges from hotels or car rentals over £150 are deposits and will put the money on hold rather than taking it straight away, much like a credit card would do, which is absolutely fab for those people (like me) who don't have a credit card for these things normally

Carrying less cards around with you
Who wants to be carrying wads of cash or a ton of cards around with them on holiday? One card which does all of the work is less to carry and much less likely to be lost or stolen.

Being able to lockdown your cards if lost
If it should happen to be lost though, you can lock down all of your cards immediately at the touch of a button through the app, saving on any expensive call costs to banks from abroad. It also means, it gives you a little extra time if you did find the card in the meantime, at least you won't have cancelled it altogether at the bank deeming it useless!

Although I'm the blogger here, and I'm normally the one who reaps the rewards of my writing by receiving lovely products to review, this time I stood no chance. My husband was all over this from the second I mentioned it and made it clear it was his turn to review this one.

We were very kindly gifted a 6 month subscription Curve Metal (which comes in this rather fancy presentation box) to try out, so we could really test it out and see if it was everything it claimed to be. I totally would not be recommending something to you guys if I haven't tried it myself beforehand.

My husband is absolutely loving his card and the simplicity of it. He had a new wallet for Father's day which can only hold 3 cards so this has just been perfect for him to be able to combine everything to just this one.

He loves that he can switch between his accounts via the app so easily and quickly and that there is the handy little 'back in time' feature which lets him move payments from one credit/debit card to another within a 14 day period if you do happen to choose the wrong card at the time of purchase.

He is also loving the cashback rewards offering 1% cashback on 6 premium retailers chosen by him from a big list of retailers available, so he can get the most from his card in shops he knows he will be using regularly like Aldi for the weekly food shop.

We have literally never heard of anything like Curve before and it is an absolute game changer. There is no doubt that once our free subscription is over, my husband will carry on with his Curve card in the future and we will become lifelong customers.

Although I have featured here on the travelling abroad aspect of the Curve card, there is so so much more to it, I'd be here all day writing everything down. Luckily for me, I don't need to because the curve website is full of more information and their FAQs page is especially helpful if this has made you want your own card and you want to know more.
